Everyone calls him Mayhem. Matt Biolos started …Lost Surfboards in 1987, in the same San Clemente bay he still works out of today. Forty years later, the boards are a continual evolution, with each new generation of world-class surfers pushing past what the last one rode. Matt is perpetually challenged to innovate what he builds to keep up.
The process
A surfboard isn’t assembled, it’s built by hand, one at a time. Artisans shape the foam blank, fine-tuning each contour of the board until it’s deemed perfect to their standards. Resin is what turns that shaped foam core into something rigid enough to actually surf on, applied by hand at every stage. The details, the materials, and the effort behind each step is what separates a board built to perform against one that can’t keep up. Mayhem has spent over forty years perfecting it.
The partnership
We don’t partner with just anyone. And neither does Matt. We don’t just share a unified vision and level of craftsmanship, we share a hometown. Just down the street, Matt and his team share the same ethos, build products to a level that most others overlook. The details, quality of materials, and design elements aren’t extra steps, they’re the whole job. Two San Clemente brands, built on the same standard.
About the collection
The hats are designed to reflect the surfboards he builds. The Eagle and Odysea carry a custom design on the undervisor and interior liner, inspired directly by the resin work used to finish every board. The same process, worked into a hat instead of a blank. Both are finished with a Gel-Welded Mayhem logo.
